A guide to using EndNote X9 & X8 with some help for X7 & X6

Tips!

Before you start…

In EndNote:

  • Open your EndNote library and select the required referencing style (e.g. Vancouver KEMH )

In PowerPoint:

  • Open your presentation and in the EndNote X8 tab select the required referencing style (e.g. Vancouver KEMH )
  • Always use the Go to EndNote icon to access the EndNote library

Adding citations and references to PowerPoint using EndNote

To add to your PowerPoint presentation a single in-text citation from your EndNote library:

In PowerPoint

  • Select the where you want the citation to appear in the slide
  • In the EndNote tab, click on the Insert Citation icon  PPT insert citation icon 

EndNote Find & Insert My Citation

  • Search by author name using the Find command
  • Select the correct references and click Insert and your in-text citation will now appear on the slide

 

 

 

 


Depending on the referencing style, you may want to add the reference to bottom of the slide in a stand-alone text box (you will need to insert this). See below for instructions for a single reference.

To add the complete reference in PowerPoint

  • Select the where you want the reference list to appear in the slide
  • For a single reference, in the EndNote tab, click on the Insert Reference
  • Search by author name using the Find command
  • Select the correct reference and click Insert  and your reference will now appear on the slide

EndNote Find & Insert My References

To add to your PowerPoint presentation multiple in-text citations from your EndNote library :

In PowerPoint

  • Select the where you want the citation to appear in the slide and click the Go to EndNote icon
  • In EndNote, select the required citation(s). To select more than one, hold down the Ctrl key
  • In PowerPoint click on the Insert Selected Citation(s) icon PowerPoint insert selected citations and your in-text citation(s) will now appear on the slide
