KEMH Medical Library: Borrowing / Join the LIbrary

Borrowing @ KEMH Medical Library

Borrowing Rights

Staff and students employed by WNHS or undertaking KEMH courses can register with the Medical Library for full borrowing rights including loans or copies from other libraries, and off-site access to online resources - see Staff Registration tab above.

University students on placement at KEMH and members of other WA Health libraries have walk-in online access and borrowing rights only.

Loan Limits

The following loan limits apply to all borrowers:

  • Maximum number : 10 items
  • Standard loan period : 4 weeks
  • Short loan for high demand items : 7 days
  • To place a Hold on items on loan : see Library staff

Library Registration for WNHS Staff

Staff Registration    Request Articles

WNHS staff  - complete the Staff Registration form above to register with the Library & receive your login to request books & articles from other libraries. 

  • You need to complete the form only once unless your work or address details change.
  • You must complete this form once for requests of documents & books from other libraries - even if you registered with the Library before January 2015.
  • Once registered login on the same page to request an article / book. Or use the Request Articles form above.

Students who are also employed by KEMH have the same borrowing rights as staff and should complete this form.

Students completing a KEMH course should contact the Library to enable full borrowing rights : KEMH.Library@health.wa.gov.au

Student Library Registration

University students on placement at KEMH - download & complete this form if you want to borrow items from the Library. Return the completed form to the Library or by email:  KEMH.Library@health.wa.gov.au

You can't register to request articles or books from another library unless you are also employed by KEMH or completing a KEMH course. If the latter 2 categories apply to you see the Staff Registration tab above.

 

Renewing Borrowed Items

The Medical Library allows the following renewals providing the item has not been requested by another client:

  • Standard Loan : 2 renewals
  • Short Loan : 1 renewal

If you are registered with the Library you can renew your items online:

  • Go to the Library Catalogue
  • Click My account
  • Enter your Name and Barcode* then click Submit.
  • If not the default view click Items currently checked out.
  • Select the items for renewal and click Renew Selected.

* You receive a barcode when you register with the Library. This will be on your Library card if you request one.

Accessing the Library catalogue off-site

To access the Library catalogue off-site you need a KEMH computer log-in and EzProxy access (see Off-Site Access tab above).

Off-Site Access to Online Library Resources

WNHS staff with KEMH on-site computer log-in can access the Library's online resources off-site using the same log-in.
  • If your on-site access is not working, please contact HIN.
  • If your access off-site is not working please follow the directions below.

WNHS staff located at another site, and staff from other WA Health sites temporarily working at KEMH will need to apply for EzProxy access via the following steps:

From the HealthPoint page

  • Hover your mouse over the Working@Health tab.
  • In the window that appears, click on the IT link.
  • Under IT forms-frequently used heading click on Computer access request (eHFN-030).
  • Log-in with your User Name and Password used to access your work computer & email.
  • Click Change My Access.
  • From the Application Name menu select EzProxy 
  • Select King Edward Memorial Hospital.
  • Click Submit (bottom of screen).

Access from Home or Other Sites

WNHS staff with KEMH on-site computer log-in can access the Library's online resources off-site using the same log-in.

WNHS staff located at another site, and staff from other WA Health sites temporarily working at KEMH will need to apply for EzProxy access  - please see How to Request EzProxy Access
